Dr. Oakley families,
February is a month that reminds us of the power of kindness, courage, and community. As a school, we are proud to take part in Pink Shirt Day, a day that encourages us all to stand up against bullying and to choose compassion in our words and actions. Wearing pink is a simple gesture, but the message behind it is powerful: everyone deserves to feel safe, valued, and included.
We are especially excited for our upcoming whole school trip to the Be Brave Game hosted by the Calgary Hitmen on Tuesday, February 24. This annual event highlights the importance of kindness, mental health awareness, and standing up for one another. It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience how a larger community comes together to promote positive messages that extend far beyond the arena.
Our commitment to healthy hearts and healthy habits continues with Jump Rope for Heart. Thank you to Ms. Wray for organizing and for supporting students with their skipping/ skill development. Through this initiative, students learn about heart health while raising funds to support important research and education. It is inspiring to see our students moving their bodies, setting personal goals, and contributing to a meaningful cause.
On Thursday, February 26 at 2:30pm, Red Team will be hosting our whole-school assembly. Alongside Red team’s contributions, a skipping showcase will also be presented. All parents are welcome. Assemblies are an important way for us to gather as a school community, celebrate learning, and reinforce the values that guide us each day — respect, belonging, perseverance, and kindness. Please encourage your child to wear a pink shirt if possible.
Pink Shirt Day, Jump Rope for Heart, our Be Brave game experience, and our team assemblies all share a common thread: we are stronger together. Every small act of kindness matters.
With appreciation,
Chantel Crosby
Principal
