Dear Families,
As we step into April, we are reminded of both the beauty of the changing season and the importance of nurturing the world around us. This month, we celebrated Earth Day on April 22, and our students engaged in meaningful conversations and activities that highlighted the importance of sustainability, environmental stewardship, and caring for the planet. Yellow Team hosted an assembly for the whole school and demonstrated how students can take small and meaningful actions that make a difference. Earth Day and other observances help foster a connection to the world beyond the classroom.
April also marks the beginning of transitions—whether it's preparing for the move to a new school, a new grade, a new division, or simply reflecting on how much our students have grown this year. We are working closely with staff and students to ensure these transitions feel supportive and exciting. This includes intentional conversations, classroom activities, and opportunities for students to reflect on their learning and goals.
We warmly encourage all families to join us for an online Transition Parent Presentation on May 12 at 6:30 p.m. (please see the separate parent email for details). Students transitioning back to their community schools will also be creating a Transition Project, highlighting their strengths, interests, and future goals. These projects will be emailed to their new schools, with copies shared with both families and receiving teachers.
To further support a smooth transition, Dr. Oakley teachers will connect with each receiving school to share relevant academic information, effective support strategies, and insights into students’ social-emotional needs. We also encourage families to reach out to their community schools regarding open houses or intake meetings in the coming months. Contacting the school when it reopens in August may also offer opportunities to connect with your child’s teacher(s) ahead of the new school year.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We are proud of how our students are growing not only as learners, but as thoughtful citizens of their communities and the world.
