Principal’s Message: March
As we head into spring break, I want to take a moment to thank all parents and guardians for your ongoing support and partnership. This time of year is always a mix of reflection and anticipation, as students continue their learning while also beginning to think about the future. Whether they are preparing for end-of-year transitions or setting goals for the months ahead, we are proud of their growth and resilience.
When we return, the final stretch of the school year will be filled with exciting learning experiences, celebrations, and preparations for the next steps in each student’s journey.
A few updates:
· If your child is a first-year student and will not be returning next year, please contact your child’s teacher or the office.
· If your child is transitioning back to their community school, this is an automatic process.
· Students applying to specialized programs (ie. L&L) will likely be notified by mid-April.
Transition Process:
· All students in their final year at Dr. Oakley will create a transition project. This project helps introduce them to their new school, making the transition smoother. By sharing their interests, strengths, and learning preferences, your child’s new teachers will better understand their needs in order to create a more supportive environment. This project also encourages self-reflection and confidence.
· Our teachers will be reaching out to each welcoming school closer to the end of the school year to offer a meeting and share information (interests, strengths, learning preferences and supports) for each student.
· We encourage families to contact their child’s new school during the teacher days in August (August 27-29) to plan a phone call or possible intake meeting.
If you have any questions about the transition process, or our ongoing work, please do not hesitate to reach out.
We look forward to finishing the year strong together! Have a wonderful spring break!
