Principal’s Message: October 2024

Dr. Oakley families,

I am thrilled to share that we’ve had a fantastic start to the school year! The energy and enthusiasm of our students, staff, and families have been truly inspiring, and I’m confident that this positive momentum will carry us through the rest of the year. Our returning students have demonstrated significant leadership in supporting new students to the school and modelling routines. While the first few weeks were focused on building community, students are now settled into their individual reading, writing and math groups.

I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our teachers and staff for their hard work in creating welcoming and engaging learning environments. It is clear that everyone is dedicated to ensuring a successful year ahead, and I couldn’t be prouder of our school community.

I would also like to highlight the meaningful assembly we held in recognition of Orange Shirt Day. This day serves as an important reminder of the need for Truth and Reconciliation, and it was moving to see our students and staff come together to honor the survivors of residential schools and to learn about the impact of these schools on Indigenous communities. Through our continued efforts, we aim to foster understanding, respect, and healing. Blue team led an assembly, complete with a Blackfoot translation of O Canada. Student leaders from Blue team led each classroom community through sharing circles to show gratitude to the land and a recognition of the importance of Orange Shirts. Please see the attached photo.

Thank you for your ongoing support, and I look forward to all that we will accomplish together this year!
