Dear Dr. Oakley families,
It has been such a joy to welcome students back for a new school year! Classrooms are already buzzing with energy as students begin settling into routines, building friendships, and developing a sense of community within their classes. We are so excited for the year ahead and grateful for the partnership we share with you in supporting your children.
The beginning of the school year can sometimes come with a few bumps—especially with buses. Thank you for your patience as we worked through some delays. We’re happy to share that things are running much more smoothly now, and starting Wednesday, September 10, students on bus E, G, I, L will no longer need to wait in the gym for buses at the end of the day. Watch your e-mail/ bus app for specific updates.
We also have some exciting events coming up this month:
· Meet the Teacher- Thursday, September 11: Families are invited to visit the school between 5pm and 7pm (drop-in). This evening is a chance to meet your child’s teachers—since each student has at least two—and to visit their classrooms. Teachers will be available to answer general questions and will share handouts outlining classroom routines, curriculum, and home reading expectations. Please note that this is not a parent–teacher conference, so specific questions about individual student progress will be addressed at a later time. Please also stop by and meet our literacy team (Ms. Bryden and Ms. Petillot), PE (Ms. Wray) and Math (Mr. Stringer) who will be situated near the front door.
· Picture Day- Tuesday, September 16
· Batter Boys Pancake Breakfast – Wednesday, September 18 (Weather dependent): Parent Council is sponsoring a pancake breakfast with the Batter Boys team! Students will also receive a juice box. Please feel free to send an alternate snack if your child has dietary restrictions.
· Terry Fox Run- Tuesday, September 23 at 2:00pm: Students will meet in the gym prior to running outside on the field. Additional information will be sent out shortly. Toonies for Terry, or online donations for the Terry Fox Foundation are always appreciated.
· Orange Shirt Day Assembly – Wednesday, September 25 at 2:30pm, organized by Orange Team: A time to learn, reflect, and honor the importance of Every Child Matters. Parents are welcome to join us in the gym.
At Dr. Oakley, we place a high value on communication. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at any time if you have questions or concerns- we truly believe that strong communication between home and school is key to student success. IPP documents will be going home on October 9, and following that, teachers will connect with you to discuss goals and next steps for your child.
We look forward to seeing many of you at these events and throughout the school year. Thank you for helping us make Dr. Oakley a welcoming, supportive, and connected community for all.
Warmly,
Chantel Crosby
Principal
