We have had a busy and exciting week at Dr. Oakley!
Literacy groups have started, and students have brought home their home reading bags. Please remember to send the bags back to school each day so students can continue to participate in their reading routines.
We also had fantastic weather for our Terry Fox Run! Our students worked hard, challenged themselves, and did an amazing job meeting or exceeding their personal goals. We hope they are proud of their effort and enthusiasm!
We hope to see lots of families at our virtual Parent Council meeting on Wednesday September 23.  Please see the information below for details. As always, if you have any questions or need anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are happy to help!

Alberta Education and Childcare Screeners

Beginning in the 2026/27 school year, schools are required to conduct literacy and numeracy screenings to all kindergarten to grade 5 students.

Literacy and numeracy are essential skills that develop in the critical early years of education. These foundational skills ensure success in later years of a student's education and in later life. Screening children’s and students’ learning in literacy and numeracy in their early years provides critical information to teachers, parents, and Alberta Education and Childcare to help children and students get additional support if they need it.
